typical.

Before I start this post, I want to leave a fair warning. :This is a post about what has been on my mind lately.

If you are offended by it, sorry.
If you are bored by it, sorry.
If you are annoyed by it, sorry.

DON'T Read it if you DON'T want to.

Google's definition Molly Mormon is: a term for the popular stereotype of a female member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

MY definition of Molly Mormon is: A "perfect" mormon girl. IE: Never swears, never misses church, reads her scriptures every night, has a strong testimony and has no problem sharing it, goes to BYU, always dresses modestly, graduates and gets married and starts a family, doesn't kiss boys until marriage, has a good calling and is perfect at it, I could go on and on..

Google's definition of a Typical Mormon girl:
A person who belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

MY definition of a Typical Mormon girl: A girl that is a member, believes, doubts someitmes, doesn't read EVERY night, has possibly kissed a boy, swears sometimes and misses church every once in a while.

I have never looked at myself as a "molly mormon." I have friends that fit MY definition of one, and I have absolutely no problem with it. I have always looked at myself as a typical mormon girl.

Living in Utah, and being a member of the LDS church, girls are often [I don't even know what word works here...] Expected? to graduate high school, go to BYU, possibly serve a mission, get married in the temple, and start a family. Don't get me wrong! There is nothing wrong with it.. its just not my style... not for me.

It has never been my goal to go to BYU like most LDS girls in Utah. I'm not crazy about boys and marriage and being "perfect." I want to enjoy my life as a young adult... without the pressure of going to byu and getting married, and I HATE that that is the expectation for Utahan girls.

I love the church. I believe it. I love my savior. But I'm not afraid to admit that I am not a "perfect molly Mormon."

We had a lesson in Sunday school a few weeks ago, where the teacher asked "Raise your hand if you have ever sinned and felt the need/repented to your heavenly father. Whether it be a serious sin, or a minor one.." As I looked across the room, I was somewhat shocked to see people that didnt raise their hands. Absolutely no judgment to the few people that didn't. A: They are 100% perfect when it comes to sinning, or B: they are too proud to admit. If its the answer A, good for them! But most likely, its not. I thought to myself the rest of sunday, "is that actually POSSIBLE?"

I go to a singles ward. The majority of people there (minus a few) are 20-30. IS it possible that in a full 20-30 years on earth, there are people that have NEVER sinned. Highly doubtful.
SO, why did that bother me so much? Like, how hard is it to just admit you've sinned? Is that the "molly mormon/peter preisthood" coming out in people?

Sigh.

I'm done with my soapbox. :)

I am going to St. George with my friend Nichole next weekend! I can't wait. Ill post pictures.

Until then, I leave you with a HILARIOUS but TRUE (about most girls) video... HAHAHAH

haha, i love it. although- more and more as i get older, i don't have a problem with the girls who do live this way in our culture. it works differently for everyone, and there truly is nothing wrong with being practically perfect everyday. i mean really- we should be happy for people who "never swear and read scriptures everyday." there are much worse things, no? but YES that video is hilarious and i'm so happy that you don't want to be that typical provo girl- cause i do think that there is more to life on top of the gospel. if that makes sense. whew! k done.
